Sculptures 2022-2025
This period of work is focused on an exploration of what home means, and how a home
can construct our version of reality. What is the function of a home, and how can
it shape who resides there? A house, shelter, or nest can hold the stories and
memories of its inhabitants. Using natural, manmade and found materials to
intertwine, reshape, and release those memories into something tangible is a way
to engage with the complexities of home. The goal is to explore this perspective by
using discarded furniture, construction remnants, and found materials as building
blocks that tell a story. A recurring form in my work is a brick. It represents the
colonial-style architecture I grew up around. It can show up in my work as a building
block, a pedestal, or even a lung. By using a hierarchy of materials like plaster, latex,
glass and metal, the sculpture tells its own narrative. Incorporating glass,
stop-motion video, sound, and electronics into sculpture allows for a sense of
passing time. Bringing all of these materials together is representative of building a
house or a nest, where past, present and future come together.
